Fwd Axle Shafts: Reassembly
1994 Hyundai Excel GL, Automatic, KM171SECTION Reassembly
- Wrap tape around shaft splines to protect boot during installation. Install outer CV joint boot and bands, but DO NOTΒ tighten bands. Pack outer joint assembly and boot with same amount of grease that was wiped away at time of inspection.
- Install dynamic damper, if removed. Ensure distance from center of inner CV joint housing-to-center of dynamic damper is same as measurement made before disassembly. Install inner CV joint boot and bands, but DO NOTΒ tighten bands. Pack joint inner race, cage and ball bearings with 1.4-1.9 ounces of grease.
- Install assembly on axle shaft with chamfered side (small end) of cage facing away from shaft end. See Figure . Install snap ring. Install circlip into joint assembly. Apply 0.7-1.4 ounces of grease into inner CV joint boot. Position boot and boot band over joint housing. Ensure distance between bands is same as measurement made before disassembly. Tighten bands.
