EGR VALVE
1. Remove the EGR valve and check it for sticking and excess carbon deposits.
2. Connect a manual vacuum pump to the EGR valve.
3. Apply a vacuum of 67 kPa (20 in. Hg) and verify that the diaphragm chamber is air tight.
4. Apply 7 kPa (2 in. Hg) of vacuum to the EGR valve and verify that air will not pass through the valve.
5. Increase the vacuum applied to 23 kPa (7 in. Hg) and verify that air will pass through the EGR valve. If any of the tests in steps 3 through 5 failed, replace the EGR valve.
6. After testing or replacing the EGR valve, replace the gasket and tighten the mounting bolts to 19-28 Nm (14-20 ft. lbs.).
TEMPERATURE SENSOR
For testing of the TEMPERATURE SENSOR refer to TESTING PROCEDURES in COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS.
EGR CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
Testing EGR Control Solenoid Valve:
1. Mark and disconnect the vacuum hose (green stripe) from the solenoid valve.
2. Disconnect the electrical harness connector.
3. Connect a manual vacuum pump to the nipple that the green striped hose was removed from.
4. Attempt to apply a vacuum while voltage is applied to the solenoid valve, verify that the valve does hold vacuum.
5. Remove power from the solenoid valve and verify that the solenoid valve does not hold vacuum.
6. Measure the resistance between the two terminals of the solenoid valve, and verify that the resistance is between 36 and 44 ohms at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F).
7. If any of the tests in steps 4 through 6 failed, replace the EGR control solenoid valve.
