Changing Fluid

1991 Hyundai Sonata V6-3.0LSECTION Changing Fluid
The automatic transaxle fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles on these units. When refilling transaxle, add only Dexron II automatic transaxle fluid.
1. Remove drain plug from bottom of differential and drain fluid into a suitable container.
2. Loosen transaxle oil pan attaching bolts, then tap pan at one corner to break loose and drain fluid into a suitable container.
3. Remove oil pan and drain residual fluid.
4. Inspect oil filter for damage or obstructions and replace if necessary. On 1989-91 models, remove, clean and reinstall five magnets located inside the oil pan.
5. On all models, install drain plug with a new gasket and tighten to specifications.
6. Clean transaxle case and oil pan mating surfaces, then install oil pan with a new gasket and tighten attaching bolts to specifications.
7. Add 4.2 quarts Dexron II fluid to transaxle through dipstick hole.
8. Run engine at idle for at least two minutes, then shift transaxle through all ranges and recheck fluid level.
9. Add sufficient fluid to bring level to lower mark on dipstick, then run engine until normal operating temperature is reached. Recheck dipstick and ensure fluid level is within ``HOT'' range.
