Control Relay (3.0L)

1990 Hyundai Excel GLS, AutomaticSECTION Control Relay (3.0L)
  1. Remove control relay, located under right side of dashboard, near blower motor housing. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between relay terminals No. 3 and 4. Then No. 1 and 6. See Fig 1 . If no continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is present, control relay is defective.
  2. Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 9. Approximately 95 ohms resistance should be present. Check continuity between terminals No. 7 and 10. Approximately 35 ohms resistance should be present. Check continuity between terminals No. 6 and 8, then reverse leads. Continuity should exist in one direction only. If relay does not perform as indicated, relay is defective.
  3. Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 7 (positive) and No. 10 (negative) while checking continuity between terminals No. 3 and 4. If continuity is present, relay is okay. If not, replace relay.
  4. Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 6 (positive) and No. 8 (negative) while checking voltage on No. 1 and 2. If battery voltage is present, relay is okay. If not, replace relay.
