Fwd Axle Shafts: Removal

1990 Hyundai Excel GLS, AutomaticSECTION Removal, Disassembly, Reassembly & Installation
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel. Remove axle nut cotter pin, and loosen axle nut. Remove engine undercover (if equipped). Drain transaxle fluid.
  2. Remove lower ball joint-to-lower control arm mounting bolts or separate lower ball joint from steering knuckle. Remove tie rod from steering knuckle.
  3. Insert pry bar between transaxle case and inner CV joint housing. Pry axle shaft assembly from transaxle. See Fig 1 . Use care not to damage oil seal.
  4. Using a universal puller, press outer CV joint axle shaft through wheel hub. Prevent hub spacer from falling out when removing shaft.
