Master Cylinder Replacement
2009 Honda Odyssey EX-LSECTION Master Cylinder Replacement
NOTE:
- Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint; if brake fluid gets on the paint, wash it off immediately with water.
- Be careful not to damage or deform the brake lines during removal and installation.
- Plug and cover the hose ends and joints with a shop towel or equivalent.
- Remove the air cleaner housing and the intake air duct (see AIR CLEANER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Remove the reservoir cap and the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir with a syringe.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level switch connector.
- Disconnect the brake lines (B) from the master cylinder. To prevent spills, cover the hose joints with rags or shop towels.
- Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts (D).
- Remove the master cylinder from the brake booster (E). Be careful not to bend or damage the brake lines when removing the master cylinder.
- Remove the O-ring (F) from the master cylinder.NOTE: Replace the O-ring whenever the master cylinder is removed.
- Install the master cylinder in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Coat the inner bore lip and the new O-ring with the silicone oil with the Shin-Etsu silicone grease (P/N 08798-9013).
- If the master cylinder is replaced with a new one, check the brake booster pushrod clearance before installing it (see BRAKE BOOSTER PUSHROD CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENTΒ ).
- Check the brake pedal height and free play after installing the master cylinder, and adjust it if necessary: Without power adjustable pedals (see PEDAL HEIGHT ON MODELS WITHOUT POWER ADJUSTABLE PEDALSΒ ), With power adjustable pedals (see PEDAL HEIGHT ON MODEL WITH POWER ADJUSTABLE PEDALSΒ ).
- Bleed the brake system (see BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDINGΒ ).
- Spin the wheels to check for brake drag.
