Rear Differential Fluid Inspection and Replacement: Replacement

2009 Honda CR-V EX, 2.4 RE3SECTION Replacement
  1. Raise and support the vehicle (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
  2. Remove the filler plug (A) and the sealing washer (B).

  3. Remove the drain plug (A) and the sealing washer (B), then drain the fluid.

  4. Clean the drain plug, then reinstall it with a new sealing washer, and refill the differential with the recommended fluid to the proper level.
    NOTE: If you disassemble the differential, check the fluid level again after the 4WD system check is finished. Add fluid if necessary.

    Fluid Capacity: 

    1.2 L (1.3 US qt) at fluid change 

    1.4 L (1.5 US qt) at overhaul 

    Recommended fluid: 

    Honda Dual Pump Fluid II 

  5. Reinstall the filler plug with a new sealing washer.
  6. If the Maintenance Minder required to replace the rear differential fluid, reset the Maintenance Minder, to complete this procedure. If the Maintenance Minder did not require to replace the rear differential fluid, go to step 7.
  7. With the ignition switch in LOCK (0), then connect the HDS to the DLC (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  9. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the PCM. If it does not, go to the DLC circuit: '07-09 models, '10-11 models.
  10. Select GAUGES in the BODY ELECTRICAL with the HDS.
  11. Select ADJUSTMENT in the GAUGES with the HDS.
  12. Select MAINTENANCE MINDER in the ADJUSTMENT with the HDS.
  13. Select RESET in the MAINTENANCE MINDER with the HDS.
  14. Select MAINTENANCE SUB ITEM 6 RESET with the HDS, and reset the rear differential fluid life.
