WARNING:
Whenever ignition is on, or has been turned off for less than 3 minutes, be careful not to bump SRS unit. Air bags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or injury.
- Before proceeding, See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Erase DTC memory. See ERASING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition on. If indicator light stays on, go to next step. If light goes off after about 6 seconds, system is okay at this time. See TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES under DIAGNOSTICS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 3 minutes. Disconnect driver-side air bag 2-pin connector from cable reel 2-pin connector. See Figure. DO NOT disconnect passenger-side air bag connector. Connect SRS Simulator Lead "C" (07TAZ-SZ5011A) and SRS Inflator Simulator (07SAZ-TB4011A) to cable reel 2-pin connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Erase DTC memory. See ERASING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY under DIAGNOSTICS. Read DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 1-5 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC 1-5 is not indicated, replace driver-side air bag assembly. See AIR BAG ASSEMBLIES under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes. Disconnect SRS simulator lead "C" and SRS inflator simulator from cable reel 2-pin connector. Remove steering column lower cover, and disconnect cable reel 2-pin connector from floor harness. See Figure. Connect SRS simulator lead "C" and SRS inflator simulator to floor harness 2-pin connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Erase DTC memory. See ERASING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY under DIAGNOSTICS. Read DTC. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 1-5 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC 1-5 is not indicated, replace cable reel. See CABLE REEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes. Disconnect passenger-side air bag and both seat belt tensioner 2-pin connectors from floor harness. See Figure & Figure . Disconnect floor harness 18-pin connector from SRS unit. See Figure. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 7 and 16 of floor harness 18-pin connector. If resistance is one megohm or more, replace SRS unit. See SRS UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace floor harness.
