Ignition Control Module: Description and Operation

1994 Honda Del Sol L4-1.5L SOHCSECTION Description and Operation

Ignition Distributor Assembly:

PURPOSE
Interrupts the current in the ignition coil primary windings, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings.

CONSTRUCTION
Molded resin body encasing an integrated electronic switching circuit with external electrical connectors.

OPERATION
Once the Engine Control Module (ECM) has computed a timing setting, based on the signals from the various sensors, the value is converted into a control signal for the ignitor. When the signal again falls (to 0 Volts), the ignitor interrupts the current in the ignition coil primary windings, allowing stored energy to be released in the form of a high-tension pulse through the secondary windings.
