PURPOSE
The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the Ignition timing in order to obtain the best balance of power, economy and low emissions.
OPERATION
The Engine Control Module (ECM) contains "data maps" for basic ignition timing at various engine speeds and manifold pressures. Ignition timing is also adjusted for coolant temperature.
