2021 GMC Savana 2500 LS, 6.6L Eng VIN 7SECTION Removal Procedure

    Engine Cover (1) - Remove - Engine Cover Replacement

  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
  3. Recover the HVAC refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  4. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static L8T, LV1) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 L8T, LV1)
  5. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  6. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief

  16. Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
  17. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe @ Radiator - Remove [2x] - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (with L8T/MYD)
  18. Disconnect the upper engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
  19. Disconnect the lower engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement

    Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (L8T)

  21. Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)

    Junction Block Cover (1) - Remove

  23. Battery Positive Cable Nut (2) - Remove

    Disconnect the release cable (1) from the hood primary latch.

  26. Disconnect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.

    Radiator Lower Support Bolt (1) - Remove [8x]

  28. With the aid of an assistant, remove the core support assembly (2) with the radiator, condenser, radiator hoses and fan shroud intact.

  40. Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    Exhaust Front Pipe Nut-Left Side (1) - Remove [3x]

    Exhaust Front Pipe Nut-Right Side (1) - Remove [3x]

  43. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
    • The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
    • The engine oil level sensor
    • The coolant heater, if equipped
  44. Gather all the engine wiring harnesses and reposition off to the side.

    Torque Converter Cover Bolt-Left Side (1) - Remove

  46. Torque Converter Cover-Left Side (2) - Remove
  47. Remove the starter. Starter Replacement (L8T)

    Torque Converter Cover Bolt-Right Side (1) - Remove

    Remove the torque converter bolts (1).

    Remove the transmission bolt (2).

    Remove the transmission studs (1, 2, 5, 6).

  54. Lower the vehicle.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the EN - 36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.

    1. Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

    Engine Mount Bolt-Left Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [3x]

    Engine Mount Bolt-Right Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [3x]

    Remove the transmission studs (3, 4).

  61. Using a suitable jack, support the transmission.
  62. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
  63. Install an engine hoist to the EN-36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket.
  64. Separate the engine from the automatic transmission.
  65. Install the EN-21366  holding strap to the transmission to hold the torque converter.
  66. With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the engine out of the vehicle while checking for component interference.
  67. Install the engine to an engine stand.
  68. Remove the engine hoist.
  69. Remove the EN-36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
  70. Transfer components as necessary.
