2021 GMC Savana 2500 LS, 6.6L Eng VIN 7SECTION Installation Procedure

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the EN-36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.

    1. Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  2. Install an engine hoist to the EN-36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket.
  3. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
  4. Remove the EN-21366  holding strap from the transmission.
  5. With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the engine into the vehicle while checking for component interference.
  6. Align the engine and transmission.

    Install the transmission studs (3, 4). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)

    Engine Mount Bolt-Left Side (1) @ Frame - Install [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side

  10. Remove the floor jack from under the transmission.
  11. Remove the engine hoist.
  12. Remove the EN-36857-1  Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.

  15. Raise the vehicle.

  26. Connect the following electrical connectors:
    • Crankshaft position sensor
    • Engine oil level sensor
    • Coolant heater, if equipped
  27. Starter (3) - Install - Starter Replacement (L8T)
  28. Lower the vehicle.

    With the aid of an assistant, install the core support assembly (2) with the radiator, condenser, radiator hoses and fan shroud intact.

  41. Radiator Lower Support Bolt (1) - Install [8x] Radiator Support Replacement
  42. Connect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.

    Battery Positive Cable (3) - Install

  44. Battery Positive Cable Nut (2) - Install - Battery Positive Cable Replacement (L8T without TP3) , or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (L8T with TP3)

    Connect the release cable (1) to the hood primary latch.

  47. Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)

    Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (L8T)

  49. Connect the upper engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
  50. Connect the lower engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement

    Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install

  62. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static L8T, LV1) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 L8T, LV1)
  63. NOTE:

    Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.

  64. If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing 
  65. Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  66. Perform the crankshaft position variation learn procedure. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
  67. If the engine has been overhauled, use the following procedure to test the engine after it is installed in the vehicle.
    1. Disable the ignition system.
    2. Crank the engine several times. Listen for any unusual noises or evidence that parts are binding.
    3. Enable the ignition system.
    4. Start the engine and listen for unusual noises.
    5. Check the vehicle oil pressure gauge or light and confirm that the engine has acceptable oil pressure.
    6. Run the engine speed at about 1, 000 RPM until the engine has reached normal operating temperature.
    7. Listen for sticking lifter and other unusual noises.
    8. Inspect for fuel, oil and/or coolant leaks while the engine is running.
    9. Perform a final inspection for the proper engine oil and coolant levels.
