Installation Procedure
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the EN-36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.
- Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install an engine hoist to the EN-36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket.
- Remove the engine from the engine stand.
- Remove the EN-21366 holding strap from the transmission.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the engine into the vehicle while checking for component interference.
- Align the engine and transmission.
Install the transmission studs (3, 4). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)
Engine Mount Bolt-Left Side (1) @ Frame - Install [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side
Engine Mount Bolt-Right Side (1) @ Frame - Install [3x] - Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side
- Remove the floor jack from under the transmission.
- Remove the engine hoist.
- Remove the EN-36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
Exhaust Manifold-Right Side (1) - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (L8T)
Exhaust Manifold-Left Side (1) - Install - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (L8T)
- Raise the vehicle.
Install the transmission studs (1, 2, 5, 6). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)
Install the transmission bolt (2). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)
Install the transmission bolt (2). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)
Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1). Transmission Replacement (With L8T)
Torque Converter Cover-Right Side (2) - Install
- Torque Converter Cover Bolt-Right Side (1) - Install - Torque Converter Cover Replacement - Right Side
Torque Converter Cover-Left Side (2) - Install
- Torque Converter Cover Bolt-Left Side (1) - Install - Torque Converter Cover Replacement - Left Side
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut-Left Side (1) - Install [3x] - Catalytic Converter Replacement (L8T)
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut-Left Side (1) - Install [3x] - Catalytic Converter Replacement (L8T)
- Connect the following electrical connectors:
- Crankshaft position sensor
- Engine oil level sensor
- Coolant heater, if equipped
- Starter (3) - Install - Starter Replacement (L8T)
- Lower the vehicle.
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (1) - Install - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement
Ignition Coil (2) - Install [8x] - Ignition Coil Replacement
Intake Manifold (1) - Install - Intake Manifold Replacement
Heater Inlet Hose (2) - Install - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L8T Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Core Inlet Tube without C69) , or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L8T Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Inlet Pipe at the Water Pump without C69) , or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L8T Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Outlet Pipe at the Water Pump without C69) , or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L8T Auxiliary Air Conditioning Evaporator Front Tube to Heater Core Inlet Tube with C69)
- Heater Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Water Pump - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Heater Outlet Hose (2) - Install - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (L8T Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Core Outlet Tube) , or Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (L8T Auxiliary Air Conditioning Evaporator Front Tube to Heater Core Outlet Tube with C69)
- Heater Outlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Water Pump - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Air Conditioning Compressor (2) - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (L8T)
Power Steering Pump Bracket (1) - Install - Power Steering Pump Bracket Replacement
Fan Blade (1) - Install - Fan Blade Replacement (L8T)
Accessory Drive Primary Belt (1) - Install - Accessory Drive Primary Belt Replacement
With the aid of an assistant, install the core support assembly (2) with the radiator, condenser, radiator hoses and fan shroud intact.
- Radiator Lower Support Bolt (1) - Install [8x] Radiator Support Replacement
- Connect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.
Battery Positive Cable (3) - Install
- Battery Positive Cable Nut (2) - Install - Battery Positive Cable Replacement (L8T without TP3) , or Battery Positive Cable Replacement (L8T with TP3)
- Junction Block Cover (1) - Install
Connect the release cable (1) to the hood primary latch.
- Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)
Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Install - Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (L8T)
- Connect the upper engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
- Connect the lower engine oil cooler hose from the engine oil cooler connector. Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Install
- Radiator Inlet Hose Clamp (1) - Engage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Vent Inlet Hose (3) - Install - Radiator Vent Outlet Hose Replacement (L8T)
Front Bumper Impact Bar (2) - Install - Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
Install both headlamps (2). Front Headlamp Replacement
Air Cleaner Assembly (4) - Install - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Coolant Recovery Reservoir (1) - Install - Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (L8T, LV1)
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace-Right Side (2) - Install - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace-Left Side (2) - Install - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side
- Fill the cooling system with coolant. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static L8T, LV1) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 L8T, LV1)
- If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing
- Fill the engine oil to the proper level with NEW engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Perform the crankshaft position variation learn procedure. Crankshaft Position Variation Learn
- If the engine has been overhauled, use the following procedure to test the engine after it is installed in the vehicle.
- Disable the ignition system.
- Crank the engine several times. Listen for any unusual noises or evidence that parts are binding.
- Enable the ignition system.
- Start the engine and listen for unusual noises.
- Check the vehicle oil pressure gauge or light and confirm that the engine has acceptable oil pressure.
- Run the engine speed at about 1, 000 RPM until the engine has reached normal operating temperature.
- Listen for sticking lifter and other unusual noises.
- Inspect for fuel, oil and/or coolant leaks while the engine is running.
- Perform a final inspection for the proper engine oil and coolant levels.

When to See a Mechanic
