Grid Filament Repair

2001 GMC Savana G3500, Van Cargo Extended, 5.7 R, L31SECTION Grid Filament Repair
  1. Turn system off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Ensure repair area is dry and free of contaminates. Wipe area clean with alcohol. Be sure to clean 1/4" (6 mm) beyond each side of break. With glass at room temperature of 70-90°F (20-32°C), position masking tape along both sides of grid line at damaged area. See Fig 1 .
  2. Apply grid repair material to grid at all areas of repair and remove masking tape. Use a heat gun capable of reaching 500°F (260°C) to cure repair material. Protect interior trim from heat damage. Hold heat gun 1" (25 mm) from repair area for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Ensure repair area reaches a minimum of 300°F (149°C). Test defogger operation to verify repair. If repair area appears discolored, apply a coating of tincture of iodine. Allow iodine to dry for 30 seconds and carefully wipe off excess using lint-free cloth.
