Removal Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  4. Remove the outer tie rod. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End ReplacementΒ .
  5. Remove the jam nut.

  7. Remove the spring from the boot, outer end.
  8. Cut and remove the crimp clamp, inner end. Discard the clamp.
  9. Unseat the boot from the steering gear and remove.

  11. Clean the inner tie rod and boot contact area of grease and debris.
