Removal Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to SEAT CUSHION REPLACEMENT - REAR in Seats.
  2. Remove the rear seat back. Refer to SEAT BACK REPLACEMENT - REAR (NON-FOLDING) or SEAT BACK REPLACEMENT - REAR (FOLDING) in Seats.
  3. Remove the rear upper quarter trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - REAR QUARTER UPPERΒ  .
  4. Use J 38778 to remove the push pins from the panel front.
  5. Lift the panel and remove the seat belts through the slots in the trim panel.
  6. Front inside the rear compartment, disengage the clip by the high mount stoplamp.
  7. Slide the panel forward to disengage the integral hook from the retaining hole.
  8. Disconnect the electrical cable connector for the high mount stoplamp, located on the passenger end of panel.
  9. Remove the rear shelf from the vehicle.
