Installation Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fender to the vehicle.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the bolts to the fender at the front compartment side rail.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

  4. Install the bolts to the fender at the rocker panel.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

  6. Install the bolts to the fender at the door hinge pillar.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the bolts to the fender at the lower engine compartment side rail.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  9. Install the washer solvent container (right fender). Refer to WASHER SOLVENT CONTAINER REPLACEMENT in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  10. Install the front fender liner. Refer to FRONT FENDER LINER REPLACEMENT  .
  11. Install the hood hinge. Refer to HOOD HINGE REPLACEMENT  .
  12. Install the hood. Refer to HOOD REPLACEMENT  .
  13. Install the rocker finish panel. Refer to MOLDING REPLACEMENT - ROCKER PANEL .
  14. Install the headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB AND/OR CORNERING, SIDEMARKER, PARK, TURN SIGNAL BULB REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
  15. Install the body side molding, if required. Refer to MOLDING REPLACEMENT - BODY SIDE in Exterior Trim.
