Removal Procedure
1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
- Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory .
- Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Knee Bolster .
- Remove the ignition switch housing bracket and reposition the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Housing Bracket Replacement .
- Release the ignition switch and hazard warning switch wiring harness retainers from the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Mark the location of the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Disassembly Precautions .
- Remove the retaining screws from the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Remove the driver knee bolster bracket.
- Remove the left lower closeout panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
- Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
- Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
- Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper .
- Remove the outlet duct from the left side window defogger.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
- Disconnect the Bose® module electrical/audio connector, if equipped.
