Installation Procedure
1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Installation Procedure

- Tie the hood latch release cable to a wire or string. Feed the hood latch release cable grommet through the dash panel.
- Apply strip caulk sealer or equivalent around the grommet.
- Install the hood latch release cable to the hood release handle.NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
- Install the bolts to the hood release handle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 Ib in).
- Install the nut to the parking brake bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 5 N.m (44 Ib in).
- Pull the carpet back.
- Install the hood latch release cable retainers to the engine compartment side rail retainers.
- Route the hood latch release cable through the radiator support.
- Install the air cleaner. Refer to the following procedures:
- Install the front sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to BRACE REPLACEMENT - FRONT FENDER UPPER DIAGONAL .
- Install the release cable to the hood latch.
- If the vehicle is equipped with a supercharger:
- Install the air intake ducts.
- Install the push-in retainers to the air intake ducts.
- Install the left front headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB REPLACEMENT in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the block from the latch mechanism.
- Inspect the hood latch for proper operation.
- Close the hood.
