Removal Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Remove liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Aztek)Β  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Rendezvous)Β .
  2. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Liftgate (Pontiac) or Window Replacement - Liftgate (Buick) in Stationary Windows.
  3. Remove the liftgate latch strikers. Refer to Latch Striker Replacement - Liftgate (Aztek)Β  or Latch Striker Replacement - Liftgate (Rendezvous)Β .
  4. Remove the liftgate bumper mounting brackets.
  5. Disconnect the liftgate electrical connector.
  6. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - LiftgateΒ .

  7. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges to the liftgate with a grease pencil.
  8. Remove the bolts from the liftgate hinges, with an assistant.

  9. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle, with an assistant and place outside face down on a clean padded surface.
