1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the handle from the handle assembly. Refer to HANDLE REPLACEMENT - REAR DOOR INSIDEΒ .

    Remove the endgate trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - END GATEΒ .

  2. Remove the endgate bellcrank rod from the endgate inside handle assembly.
  3. Remove the screws that retain the endgate cover to the endgate.
  4. Remove the endgate cover from the endgate.
  5. Release the endgate latch rods from the latch rod clips.

  6. Drill out the rivets that secure the handle assembly to the endgate.
  7. Remove the handle from the endgate cover.
