Installation Procedure

- Position the intermediate steering shaft (1). Insert the shaft fully into the pinch bolt pot joint on the steering column.CAUTION: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
- Install the intermediate shaft upper pinch bolt (2).
Tighten
Tighten the pinch bolt (2) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
- Reposition the seal as needed.
- Install the left IP sound insulator. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT -- LEFT .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the intermediate shaft to the steering gear.
- Install the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the pinch bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the J 42640 from the steering column.
