Removal Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front passenger bucket seat. Refer to SEAT REPLACEMENT -- BUCKET .
  2. Remove the windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield PillarΒ  .
  3. Remove the center pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center PillarΒ  .
  4. Remove the rear quarter upper garnish moldings. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter UpperΒ  .
  5. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade ReplacementΒ  .
  6. Remove the overhead console. Refer to Console Replacement - OverheadΒ  .
  7. Pull the door opening moldings down in order to clear headliner. Refer to WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT -- REAR DOOR OPENING .
  8. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle ReplacementΒ  .
  9. Remove the High Mounted Stop Lamp. Refer to HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP REPLACEMENT .
  10. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connectors.
  11. Carefully pull the headliner down in order to gain access to the cardboard roof insulator.
    CAUTION: Use care when removing the cardboard roof insulator. Excessive pressure can cause dents in the roof panel.

  13. Starting in 1 corner of the cardboard insulator, pulling downward, cut the adhesive beads (1) using a sharp putty knife or equivalent.
  14. Separate the cardboard roof insulator from the roof.

    Important:Β  It is not necessary to remove all of the old adhesive from the roof panel.

  15. Cut off all of the excessive adhesive beads.
    CAUTION: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.
  16. With the add of an assistant, remove the headliner through the rear passenger door opening.
  17. Carefully separate the cardboard roof insulator from the headliner.
