Installation Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Installation Procedure

  1. Position the intermediate steering shaft into place.
  2. Install the upper pinch bolt to the intermediate steering shaft at the steering column.

    Tighten:Β 

    Tighten the pinch bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft)Β

  3. Install the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT in GAUGES AND INSTRUMENT PANEL .
  4. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the steering column.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6. Install the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the power steering gear stub shaft (2).
  7. Install the lower pinch bolt to the intermediate steering shaft at the power steering gear stub shaft.

    Tighten:Β 

    Tighten the pinch bolt to 48 N.m (35 lb ft)Β

  8. Install the intermediate steering shaft seal onto the power steering gear.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
