Removal Procedure

1999 GMC Forward Control 5.7 R, AutomaticSECTION Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
  3. Remove the brake calipers. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes .
  4. Remove the parking brake cable mounting bracket.
  5. Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  6. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
  7. Remove the ABS electrical connector mounting bracket.
  8. Use the utility jack in order to support the lower control arm. See Figure.
  9. Remove the stabilizer link from the lower control arm.
  10. Use the J 41820 in order to disconnect the ball joint from the knuckle.
  11. Use the utility jack in order to lower the lower control arm and relieve the coil spring tension.
  12. Remove the coil spring. See Figure.
