Water Crossover Assembly: Removal

- Drain the cooling system. Remove the air cleaner assembly. See AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLYΒ under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS. Remove mounting the 2 mounting nuts from the injector sight shield (top engine cover). Lift the injector sight shield off the mounting studs by lifting at the front of the cover. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum tube from the water housing crossover assembly. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum tube. Disconnect the AIR solenoid vacuum tube.
- Remove the throttle body. See THROTTLE BODYΒ under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS. Disconnect the fuel rail bracket retaining nut at the rear lift bracket. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the fitting. See Fig 1. Remove the surge tank inlet fitting. Remove the rear lift bracket bolt. Remove the rear lift bracket.
- Remove the EGR valve. Disconnect the EGR inlet pipe nut from the exhaust crossover. See Figure. The EGR valve inlet pipe incorporates a crush seal connection at the water crossover assembly. The EGR valve inlet pipe must be replaced if disconnected from the water crossover assembly. Remove the EGR inlet pipe bolt and flange from the water crossover assembly. Remove the EGR inlet pipe and discard.
- Remove the EVAP emission canister purge solenoid. Disconnect the electrical connector from the MAP sensor. Remove the MAP sensor. Remove the inlet radiator hose from the water crossover assembly. Remove the outlet radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
- Remove the water pump. See WATER PUMPΒ . Remove the 2 bolts attaching the water pump belt tensioner to the water crossover assembly. Remove the water pump belt tensioner.
- Disconnect the cable harness clip at the water crossover assembly and position aside. Disconnect the heater hose from the water crossover assembly. Remove the water crossover assembly from the engine. See Fig 2. Clean and inspect the water crossover assembly.
