Accelerator Cable Adjustment: 2.5L

  1. Start and operate engine to normal operating temperature. Check accelerator pedal free play with throttle valve closed. Accelerator pedal free play clearance should be.08-.27" (2-7 mm). See Figure. To adjust accelerator pedal free play, loosen accelerator cable lock nut at throttle body bracket. See Fig 1. Turn accelerator cable adjusting nut until free play is within specification. Install and tighten accelerator cable lock nut to 17 ft. lbs. (23 N.m).
  2. Check clearance between throttle lever and throttle stop with accelerator pedal fully depressed. Accelerator cable end play clearance should be.02-.07" (0.5-2.0 mm). See Fig 2. To adjust accelerator cable end play, adjust height of accelerator pedal stop. See Figure.
