Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Disassembly

1993 GMC Jimmy Base, 2D Utility, 4.3 Z, RWD, StandardSECTION Disassembly
  1. Using Gear and Bearing Separator Plate (J-36513) and hydraulic press, remove snap ring, 3rd-4th synchronizer assembly, synchronizer rings and 3rd gear from mainshaft. See Figure . Scribe marks on hub and sleeve for installation reference.
    NOTE: Leave synchronizer rings on all synchronizer assemblies to prevent synchronizer detent balls from popping out.
  2. Remove 3rd gear bearing, retainer ring and 2-piece thrust washer. Remove 2nd gear and 2nd gear bearing assembly using Gear and Bearing Separator Plate (J-36513) and hydraulic press. Remove 1st gear and 1st-2nd synchronizer assembly using Gear and Bearing Separator Plate (J-36513) and hydraulic press.
  3. Scribe marks on hub and sleeve for installation reference. Remove 1st gear bearing assembly, 5th gear and 5th gear bearing assembly. Remove snap ring. See Figure .
  4. Remove reverse gear and 5th-reverse synchronizer assembly using Gear and Bearing Separator Plate (J-36513) and hydraulic press. Scribe marks on hub and sleeve for installation reference. Remove 3rd gear bearing assembly.
  5. Place 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th and 5th-reverse gear synchronizers in separate shop towels. Wrap assemblies and press against inner hub. Disassemble synchronizer assemblies. DO NOT mix parts.
