Disassembly (Model TC)

1992 GMC Rally G1500, 4.3 ZSECTION Disassembly (Model TC)
  1. Clamp front hub in soft-jawed vise. Pry tab outward and remove reservoir clips (if equipped). See Figure . Remove reservoir or return tube and "O" ring. Using Pulley Remover (J-25034-B), remove pulley from shaft if not previously removed.
  2. Remove union fitting, "O" ring, flow control valve and spring. Note location of large lug side of retaining ring before removal. Remove retaining ring. Remove drive shaft and bearing assembly. Measure and note clearance between drive shaft and bearing collar. Press bearing from drive shaft. Using screwdriver, remove drive shaft seal from housing.
  3. Remove thrust plate retaining ring by inserting punch into access hole and disengaging retaining ring. Using a 5/8" bar stock or brass drift, press pressure plate and remove thrust plate from drive shaft side of steering pump. Remove "O" ring, pump ring, pump rotor, vanes and 2 pump ring dowel pins. Using press, remove pressure plate from housing. Remove "O" ring from pressure plate.
  4. Remove pressure plate spring and dowel pin. Remove "O" ring from sleeve assembly. Using punch, from drive shaft side of steering pump, remove sleeve assembly.
