Spring Assembly: Installation

1992 GMC Jimmy Base, 2D Utility, 4.3 Z, RWD, StandardSECTION Installation
  1. Install the shackle (12) to the rearward spring eye. See Figure or Figure .
  2. Install the shackle to spring bolt (6), washers (19) and nut (17), DO NOT tighten.
  3. Install the spring assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Install the spring to front bracket bolt (20), washers (19), and nut (17), DO NOT tighten.
  5. On 1993-94 models, install the fuel tank.
  6. Install the shackle (12) to the frame bolt (7), washers (8), and the nut (9). DO NOT tighten.
  7. On 1993-94 models, install the spare tire, if equipped.
  8. Install the U-bolts (18), anchor bolts (16), washers (14), and U-bolt nuts (15).
  9. Tighten the U-bolts (15) in sequence initially. See Fig 1 . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ  .
    NOTE: Support the axle in such a way that there is a distance of 170 mm +/- 6 mm (6.7 inch +/- 0.24 inch) for left hand drive vehicles or 148 mm +/- 6 mm (5.8 inch +/- 0.24 inch) for right hand drive vehicles, between the axle tube and the bumper bracket metal surfaces.
  10. Tighten the front bracket nut (17) and the rear shackle nuts (11 and 9). See
  11. Install the shock absorber.
  12. Lower vehicle.
