1983 GMC Pickup C1500, 6.2 C, StandardSECTION Disassembly
  1. Remove thrust washer and 1st gear. Remove reverse driven gear. Remove snap ring in front of 3rd-4th synchronizer assembly. Press behind 2nd gear to remove 3rd-4th synchronizer, 3rd gear, and 2nd gear with 3rd gear bushing and thrust washer. See Fig 1.
  2. Remove 2nd gear synchronizer ring. Support 2nd gear synchronizer hub on front face, and press mainshaft through, removing 1st gear bushing and 2nd gear synchronizer hub. Split 2nd gear bushing with a chisel, and remove bushing from shaft.
