Rear Bumper: Disassembly

2021 Ford Edge SE, 4WDSECTION Disassembly

All vehicles 

  1. Remove the rear bumper. Refer to: Rear Bumper .
  2. NOTE: The number and location of electrical connectors will vary depending on option content.

    1. Disconnect the trailer brake electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the license plate lamp electrical connectors.
    3. Disconnect the rear park aid sensor electrical connectors.
    4. Disconnect the rear active park assist sensor electrical connectors.

  3. NOTE: The number and location of retainers will vary depending on option content.

    Separate the harness guides, harness retainers and remove rear bumper wiring harness.

  4. On both sides. Release the tabs and remove the license plate lamp.

    Vehicles With: Active Park Assist/Rear Parking Aid 

  5. NOTE: Make sure that the isolator rings are installed correctly while installing the sensors.

    Remove the rear parking aid sensors and rear active park assist sensors.

    1. Release the tabs.
    2. Remove the rear parking aid sensors and rear active park assist sensors from the bracket.

    All vehicles 

  6. Remove the lock set.

  7. If equipped. Remove the trailer ball access cover.

  8. Release the tabs and remove the rear bumper step plate.

    Vehicles With: Trailer Tow 

  9. Release the tabs and remove the trailer brake electrical connector.

  10. Remove the bolts and the trailer hitch assembly.

    Torque

    : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Vehicles Without: Trailer Tow 

  11. Remove the bolts and the rear bumper bar.

    Torque

    : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    All vehicles 

  12. On both sides. Remove the bolts and the outer rear bumper brace.

    Torque

    : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
