Transfer Case Draining and Filling

Materials 

Name Specification
Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission FluidXT-10-QLVC WSS-M2C938-AMERCON® LV,

Draining 

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
    1. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid.
    2. Clean the drain plug and the area around drain plug.
    3. Apply thread sealant to the drain plug threads and install the drain plug.

      Torque

      : 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

Filling 

    1. Clean the fill plug and the area around fill plug.
    2. Remove the fill plug.

  1. Fill the transfer case with 1.4L (2.9 pt) of clean fluid. The transfer case fluid must be within 10mm (0.393 in) below the fill plug hole.

    Material

    1. Apply thread sealant to the fill plug threads.
    2. Install the fill plug.

      Torque

      : 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
