  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The starter motor electrical connection may be faulty, the solenoid switch engagement relay is faulty or the pinion gear or starter pinion or flywheel is damaged.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    BCM B15DB:09 Vehicle Starter Motor: Component Failures This DTC sets when a starter motor component failure or malfunction has been detected by the PCM.

    Possible Sources 

    • Starter motor or relay
    • Starter motor ring gear
    • Starter motor solenoid switch or coil

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks 

    • Starter motor cracked or damaged
    • Damaged flexplate
