Upper Intake Manifold: Removal
2021 Ford Edge SE, 4WDSECTION Removal

NOTE:
If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Position the crankcase vent tube away from the intake manifold.

- Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold.
- Detach the EVAP canister purge valve tube retainer from the intake manifold.
- Detach the EVAP canister purge valve and position aside.

- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector.
- Detach the wiring harness retainers.

- Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector and wire harness retainer.
- Disconnect the brake vacuum tube quick release coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Remove the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt.
- Disconnect the PCV tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold.
- Detach the coolant hose retainers from the intake manifold.
- Remove the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube bolts.
- Loosen the EGR valve bracket nut and bolts.

- Disconnect the EGR transducer electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt, hoses and the EGR transducer.

- Remove the EGR tube to intake manifold bolts.
- Remove the bolts and the EGR tube.
- Remove and discard the EGR tube O-ring seal and gasket.
- Remove and discard the exhaust manifold tube gasket.
- Remove the bolts and the upper intake manifold.

- Remove and discard the upper intake manifold gaskets.
- Clean and inspect all of the sealing surfaces of the upper and lower intake manifold.
