Oil Pan: Installation
Vehicles with manual transmission

NOTE: Make sure to install a new O-ring seal. A missing or damaged O-ring seal can cause foam in the lubrication system and low oil pressure. Failure to follow this instruction may result in engine damage.
- Clean and inspect the mating surfaces and install a new O-ring seal on the oil pump screen and pickup tube.
- Lubricate the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)

- Install a new oil pan gasket.
- Position the oil pump screen and pickup tube into the oil pan.
- Position the oil pan onto the engine and install one bolt at the front and one bolt at the rear of the oil pan to hold it in position.
- Inspect the ignition pulse ring for damage. If the ignition pulse ring has been dropped or has any visual damage, it must be discarded.
- With the inset hole on the crankshaft ignition pulse ring aligned with the inset hole on the crankshaft flange, install the crankshaft ignition pulse ring.
- Install the engine-to-transmission spacer plate.
- Install the flywheel. Refer to: Flywheel .
- Using the engine support bar, raise the engine. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Lower the oil pan onto the crossmember.

- Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube and the bolts.
Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube nut.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)
- Install the oil pump screen and pickup tube and the bolts.

NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.
Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) drop of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block and engine front cover-to-cylinder block sealing surface.
Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)
- Install the oil pan and the bolts finger tighten and tighten in 2 stages in sequence shown.
Torque: Stage 1: 106 lb.in (12 Nm) | Stage 2: 40 deg.
Vehicles with automatic transmission

NOTE: If not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.
Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) drop of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block and engine front cover-to-cylinder block sealing surface.
Material: Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone / TA-357 (WSE-M4G323-A6)
- Install a new oil pan gasket.
- Install the oil pan and the bolts finger tight and tighten in 2 stages in the sequence shown.
Torque: Stage 1: 106 lb.in (12 Nm) | Stage 2: 40 deg.
- Lower and remove the transmission jack.. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Install the transmission inspection plate and the bolts.
Torque: 25 lb.ft (34 Nm)
All vehicles
- Clean the engine mount frame mating surfaces of any dirt or foreign material prior to installation.
- Clean the engine mount surfaces of any dirt or foreign material prior to installation.
- Using an assistant and engine support bar, align the engine support insulator studs and lower the engine. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

NOTE: The engine support insulator nuts and transmission support insulator nuts can not be tightened until the support insulators are supporting the full weight of the engine and transmission assembly, or damage to the vehicle or engine support insulator may occur.
Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

NOTE: Only use hand tools when tightening the engine mount bolts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Install the new RH engine support insulator bracket nuts.
Torque: 148 lb.ft (200 Nm)

NOTE: Only use hand tools when tightening the engine mount bolts or damage to the engine mount may occur.
Install the new LH engine support insulator bracket nuts.
Torque: 148 lb.ft (200 Nm)
Vehicles with automatic transmission
- Install the new LH catalytic converter pipe-to-manifold nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the new RH catalytic converter pipe-to-manifold nuts.
Torque: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the RH HO2S. Refer to: Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) .
- If equipped, install the skidplate and the bolts.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

NOTE: The transmission support insulator studs may come out of the insulator while removing the nuts.
If required, tighten transmission support insulator studs.
Torque: 66 lb.ft (90 Nm)
- If the transmission support insulator studs can not be tightened, the transmission support insulator must be replaced. Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator . Refer to: Transmission Support Insulator .
- Install new transmission support insulator nuts.
Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)
All vehicles

- Install the starter motor wiring harness bracket.
- If equipped with automatic transmission, install the transmission cooler lines bracket.
- Install the nut.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Attach the starter motor wiring harness pin-type retainer to the oil pan.
- Position the transmission oil cooler tubes and install the bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Position the engine oil cooler and install the retainer.
Torque: 43 lb.ft (58 Nm)

NOTE: Lubricate the oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
Install a new engine oil filter.
Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm) | Stage 2: 180 deg.
- Remove Special Service Tool: 303-1507 Brackets, Support.
- Install the following items:
- Install the cooling fan shroud. Refer to: Cooling Fan Shroud .
- Install the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold .
- Install the oil level indicator.
- Fill the engine with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications .
Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-30 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W30-Q1SP (WSS-M2C946-B1)
- Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, VACUUM FILLING AND BLEEDING
