P1116 - ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR OUT OF SELF-TEST RANGE

Description:  This DTC sets when the ECT sensor is out of self-test range. The self-test range is greater than 0.3 volts and less than 3.7 volts.
Possible Causes: 
  • Overheating condition
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Damaged thermostat
  • Damaged ECT circuit
  • Damaged ECT sensor
  • Damaged ECT connector
Diagnostic Aids:  The engine coolant temperature must be greater than 10°C (50°F) to pass the key ON, engine OFF (KOEO) self-test and greater than 82°C (180°F) to pass the key ON, engine running (KOER) self-test.
Application  Key On Engine Off  Key On Engine Running  Continuous Memory
