Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

2018 Ford Expedition MAX Limited, 4WDSECTION Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

On vehicles equipped with adaptive steering, with the ignition ON, the SASM sends steering angle messages to the ABS module over the HS-CAN 2. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within the specified time frame, the module sets a DTC. This can be due to a SASM failure, a circuit failure on the network or an excessive load on the network. For information on the messages sent to the ABS module by the SASM, refer to the NETWORK MESSAGE CHART in Description and Operation of Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article. On vehicles not equipped with adaptive steering, with the ignition ON the SCCM sends steering angle messages to the ABS module over the HS-CAN 2. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within the specified time frame, the module sets a DTC. This can be due to a SCCM failure, a circuit failure on the network or an excessive load on the network. For information on the messages sent to the ABS module by the SCCM, refer to the NETWORK MESSAGE CHART in Description and Operation of Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
U0126:87 Lost Communication With Steering Angle Sensor Module: Missing Message This DTC sets in continuous memory in the ABS module if the ABS module does not receive any messages from the SASM (vehicles equipped with adaptive steering) or the SCCM (vehicles not equipped with adaptive steering).
U0131:00 Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets in continuous memory in the ABS module if the ABS module does not receive any messages from the SCCM.
U0420:00 Invalid Data Received From Power Steering Control Module: No Sub Type Information This DTC sets if the ABS module receives invalid data values in the steering wheel data messages from the SCCM.
U0420:82 Invalid Data Received From Power Steering Control Module: Alive/Sequence Counter Incorrect/Not Updated This DTC sets if the information in the steering wheel data message from the SCCM does not change for a predetermined amount of time. This DTC clears automatically in the same ignition cycle it was set once valid data has been received.
U0428:82 Invalid Data Received From Steering Angle Sensor Module: Alive/Sequence Counter Incorrect/Not Updated This DTC sets if the ignition signal status message is invalid for 5 seconds.
U0428:83 Invalid Data Received From Steering Angle Sensor Module: Value of Signal Protection Calculation Incorrect This DTC sets if the ignition signal status message is invalid for 5 seconds.
