Timing Drive Components: Removal

CAUTION: Since the engine is not free-wheeling, timing procedures must be followed exactly or piston and valve damage can occur.
    WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM .
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to ENGINE FRONT COVERΒ .
  3. Remove the crankshaft sensor ring from the crankshaft.

  4. Disconnect the 8 ignition coil electrical connectors.

  5. Remove the bolts and the 8 ignition coils.

  6. NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug wells before removing the spark plugs.
