Engine Front Cover: Removal

CAUTION:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Remove the crankshaft front seal. For additional information, refer to Lower End Components - Exploded View, Crankshaft Pulley and Crankshaft Front SealΒ and Crankshaft Front SealΒ .
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and pin-type retainer.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner and 2 idler pulleys. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE - 3.0L (4V) .
- Remove the LH and RH valve covers. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - LHΒ and Valve Cover - RHΒ .
- Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
- Remove the engine mount and bracket. For additional information, refer to Engine MountΒ .
- Remove the LH and RH camshaft position (CMP) sensors. For additional information, refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS - 3.0L (4V) .
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and wiring harness retainer.
- Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Disconnect the engine oil pressure (EOP) switch electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.
- Remove the stud bolt, the 2 bolts and position the generator aside.
- Remove the 2 oil pan-to-front cover bolts.
- Remove the 14 bolts, 2 stud bolts and the engine front cover.
- Remove and discard the gaskets.
