  • VERIFY that the message center display mode is turned on, then CARRY OUT the instrument cluster self-diagnostic test to illuminate all segments of the message center display. If the message center display is illuminated, the system is working correctly at this time. If the message center display is inoperative, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
  • The service 4x4 warning display is never/always on (Escape, Mariner)
  • 4-wheel drive system
  • The park brake on warning display is never/always on

  • Instrument cluster
  • CHECK the operation of the brake warning indicator.
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the brake warning indicator.
  • The low brake fluid display in inoperative

  • CHECK the operation of the brake warning indicator.
    • If the brake warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the brake warning indicator does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the brake warning indicator.
  • The door ajar display is inoperative

  • TURN the ignition switch to the ON position and CHECK the operation of the interior lamps.
    • If the interior lamps operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the interior lamps do not operate correctly, REFER to INTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the interior lamps.
  • The low fuel level warning display is inoperative

  • CHECK the operation of the fuel gauge.
    • If the fuel gauge operates correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the fuel gauge does not operate correctly, REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER to continue diagnosis of the fuel gauge.
  • The check exterior lamps display is inoperative
  • Smart junction box (SJB)

  • VERIFY that the SJB is correctly configured for the lamp outage. REFER to MODULE CONFIGURATION . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • CHECK the operation of the exterior lamps.
    • If all of the exterior lamps operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If any exterior lamp does not operate correctly, REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the exterior lamps.
  • The check fuel cap display is inoperative

  • RETRIEVE the DTCs. If DTC U1900 is retrieved. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to continue diagnosis of the communication network.
    • If no DTCs are retrieved. INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The turn signal on warning display is inoperative

    • If no DTCs are retrieved and the stoplamps operate correctly, INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If the stoplamps do not operate correctly, REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the stoplamps.
  • The service emission system display is inoperative
