Hood Alignment: Adjustment

2007 Ford Focus SES, 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Adjustment
    NOTE: To adjust the hood, the hood latch must be removed.
  1. Remove the hood latch. For additional information, refer to HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS article.
  2. NOTE: It is not possible to adjust the rear of the hood to the height of the fender.
  3. Loosen the hood hinge-to-hood bolts approximately one half of a turn.
  4. Adjust the hood so that the rear edges of the fender and the edge of the hood line up.
    • Check that the clearances with the left and right-hand fenders run parallel to the hood and correct them if necessary.
  5. Adjust the clearances with the left and right-hand fenders.
    • The clearances with the fenders must be the same width on the left and right-hand sides. The clearances can be equalized by opening the hood on the hood support rod and correcting by pressing it to the left or right.

  7. Tighten the hood hinge-to-hood bolts.
    • Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  8. NOTE: The hood must rest uniformly on both bump stop rubbers.
  9. Adjust the front of the hood to the height of the fenders.
    • Adjust the hood to the height of the fenders with the bump stop rubbers.
