Removal and Installation
2007 Ford Escape Base, 2.3 Z, FWD, AutomaticSECTION Removal and Installation

- Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the steering column multi-function switch. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the instrument cluster. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
- Remove the cowl trim panels. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- From behind the cowl trim panels, disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the lower instrument panel insulator.
- Remove the front floor console. For additional information, refer to CONSOLE - FRONT FLOOR .
- Remove the floor shifter. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION EXTERNAL CONTROLS .
- Remove the 2 instrument panel center finish panel screws.
- Remove the instrument panel center finish panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the 2 audio unit screws.
- Remove the audio unit.
- Disconnect the audio unit electrical connectors and the antenna cable.
- Detach the instrument panel side panels.
- Remove the A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the steering column cover.
- Position the hood release handle aside.
- Remove the 2 screws and position the handle aside.
- Remove the headlamp switch.
- Remove the glove compartment door.
- Disengage the glove compartment dampener from the keyway.
- Remove the glove compartment door.
- Remove the passenger side air bag. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the passenger assist handle.
- Through the glove compartment opening, remove the 3 screws.
- Reposition the passenger side air bag.
- Through the glove compartment opening, remove the 6 passenger side air bag nuts.
- Reposition the passenger side air bag.
- Detach the cross-vehicle panel.
- Disconnect the PAD indicator electrical connector.
- Disconnect the LH side main wiring harness electrical connectors.CAUTION: To avoid damaging the instrument panel upper section, this step requires the help of an assistant. Do not bend or crimp the instrument panel upper section upon removal.
- Remove the instrument panel upper section.
- Remove the 8 screws.
- Remove 1 screw from each side at the upper portion of the panel.
- Remove 3 screws from each side at the lower portion of the panel and remove the instrument panel upper section.
- Remove the 8 screws.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
