- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Drain the power transfer unit (PTU). For additional information, refer to POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) DRAINING AND FILLING - AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE .
- Remove the front RH intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS .
- Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT .
- Remove the 4 bolts and the crossmember brace.
- Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to GENERATOR AND REGULATOR .
- Remove the exhaust as required. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Remove the 3 PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.
- Remove the 6 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts and the bracket.
- Disconnect the PTU vent tube and position it aside.
- Remove the 4 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.
- Remove the PTU.

CAUTION:
A new power transfer unit (PTU) intermediate shaft seal must be installed whenever the intermediate shaft or PTU is removed from the vehicle.
