Rear Subframe

2007 Ford Escape Base, 2.3 Z, FWD, AutomaticSECTION Rear Subframe
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Milan, 2010 Lincoln MKZ, and 2010 Ford Fusion. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The rear subframe is bolted to the body and is used to:

  • aid in structural support.
  • provide the mounting surface for the rear suspension upper control arms, rear suspension lower control arms and (if equipped) a mounting location for the rear differential.

Underbody misalignment can affect front and rear wheel alignment, the operation of the suspension parts and drivetrain operation. Door and window opening concerns and air or water leaks at the doors are often caused by incorrectly tightened bolts and body misalignment. For information on underbody dimensions, refer to UNDERBODY DIMENSIONS .
