Motorcraft MERCON® Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX MERCON®
    WARNING: Do not mix oil types. Any mixture or any unapproved oil could lead to seal deterioration and leaks. A leak could ultimately cause loss of fluid, which could result in a loss of power steering assist.
  1. Fill the reservoir.
    • Use Motorcraft MERCON® Multi-Purpose ATF XT-2-QDX or equivalent meeting Ford specification MERCON®.
  2. Raise the front wheels off the floor. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  3. Start the vehicle and immediately turn the ignition off to fill the components in the power steering system.
  4. Fill the reservoir.
  5. Start the vehicle and immediately turn the ignition off to fill the components in the power steering system.
  6. Fill the reservoir.
  7. CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops for more than three to five seconds at a time.
  8. Start the vehicle and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop twenty times.
  9. Turn the ignition switch to off.
  10. CAUTION: Do not overfill the reservoir.
  11. Fill the reservoir as needed and visually inspect the power steering system for leaks.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
