All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
- Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES article.
- Drain the power transfer unit (PTU). For additional information, refer to Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Draining and Filling - Automatic Transaxle .
- Remove the front RH intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS article.
- Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT article.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the crossmember brace.
- Remove the catalytic converter - 3.0L manifold. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM article.
- Remove the 3 PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.
- Remove the 6 PTU-to-engine bracket bolts and the bracket.
- Disconnect the PTU vent tube and position it aside.
- Remove the 4 PTU-to-transaxle bolts.
- Remove the PTU.
CAUTION:
A new power transfer unit (PTU) intermediate shaft seal must be installed whenever the intermediate shaft or PTU is removed from the vehicle.
