- Turn all vehicle accessories off. Turn the ignition switch to off. Remove the right kick panel cover and remove the Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse F2.05 (10A) from the Central Junction Box (CJB).
- Turn the ignition on and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding. Turn the ignition off.
- Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Move and tilt front seats to the highest and most forward position. Disconnect negative battery cable. WAIT at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
- Remove driver air bag module. See DRIVER AIR BAG MODULEΒ . Connect appropriate air bag simulators to clockspring connectors at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
- If vehicle is equipped with side air curtain modules, remove "A" pillar trim panel. Disconnect driver's side air curtain module electrical connector. See Fig 1. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness of the driver's side air curtain module electrical connector. See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ . Repeat procedure for passenger's side air curtain module.
- Remove glove box. See Fig 2. The passenger air bag module electrical connector is located in front of the cross-car beam attached by a pin-type retainer to a bracket on the back of the passenger air bag module. See Fig 3. Disconnect passenger side air bag module electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
- From under the passenger seat, release the tab and disconnect the passenger seat side air bag (without side air curtain) or passenger seat side thorax air bag (with side air curtain) electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness. See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ . Repeat procedure for driver side.
- Install the RCM fuse F2.05 to the CJB. Connect negative battery cable.
