Disabling System

2004 Ford Focus ZX3, 2.0 3, StandardSECTION Disabling System
  1. Turn all vehicle accessories off. Turn the ignition switch to off. At the Smart Junction Box (SJB), located below the left side of the instrument panel, remove the cover and the Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse F2.17 (10A) from the SJB.
  2. Turn the ignition on and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding. Turn the ignition off.
  3. Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming (if equipped). Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
  4. Remove access panel on rear of steering wheel. See Fig 1. Disconnect air bag module connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to clockspring connector at top of steering column (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
  5. Open glove box. Press in on sides to release stops and lower glove box. Disconnect passenger air bag module electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to passenger air bag vehicle harness connector (in place of air bag). See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
  6. NOTE: If vehicle is not equipped with safety canopies, do not deactivate the safety canopy module circuit by removing the safety canopy bridge resistor from the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector. If the safety canopy bridge resistor is removed, an open circuit fault will be generated by the RCM. If a restraint system diagnostic tool is installed at the safety canopy electrical connector, a low resistance fault will be generated by the RCM.
