Valve Spring: Removal

2004 Ford Econoline E150, Van Cargo, 4.6 WSECTION Removal

  1. Remove the valve cover (6582). For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER LHΒ  and VALVE COVER RHΒ .
  2. Rotate the crankshaft (6303) until the piston (6108) for the valve being worked on is at the top of its stroke with both the (A) intake valve (6507) and the (B) exhaust valve (6505) closed.

  3. Hold the valve in the cylinder head (6049).
    • Remove the spark plug (12405), if necessary. For additional information, refer to SPARK PLUGS .
    • Apply a minimum of 965 kPa (140 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.
    CAUTION: If the components are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in the same position. Mark the components for location.
