Pressure Cut-Off Switch

2004 Ford Econoline E150, Van Cargo, 4.6 WSECTION Pressure Cut-Off Switch
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The pressure cut-off switch is used to interrupt compressor operation in event of high system discharge pressures. Pressure cut-off switch is mounted on a Schrader valve-type fitting on high pressure side of A/C manifold and tube. A valve depressor, located inside threaded end of A/C pressure cut-off switch, presses on Schrader valve stem. This allows A/C pressure cut-off switch to monitor compressor discharge pressure.

When compressor discharge pressure rises, switch contacts open, disengaging compressor. When pressure drops, contacts close to allow operation of compressor. See SPECIFICATIONSΒ . It is not necessary to discharge refrigerant system to remove pressure cut-off switch.
